Silent Auction Volunteers Needed: (Volunteers to start ASAP) We moved this event to November! We have a chair for the Silent Auction, who needs 3 more volunteers to collect donations. The task is to call 25-30 businesses to ask for donations. This is NOT cold calling- they would get a list of local businesses who have donated in the past and just need to ask if they can donate again and then pick up the item from the business. The businesses are grouped by shopping center, so they would be near each other for pickup. Sign up HERE!

Bulldog Hacks: Saturday, September 28 at 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM Our Computer Science Club is hosting Westfield High School’s very first coding competition, Bulldog Hacks, for students from grades 7 through 12. We are hosting this free event in order to: · Encourage all middle and high school students, regardless of ethnic and financial backgrounds, to study computer science · Further students’ knowledge in technology and its application in healthcare, social good and financial industries · Connect like-minded students to collaborate, network and try solving industry problems This event is held as a coding competition where students have six hours to solve problems from three categories: Health Tech, FinTech, and Social Good. During this event, we will have guest speakers and workshops. It is a great place for students to engage with other students who share similar interests, broaden their knowledge in programming, and to meet leaders from the industry. · *See the attached flyer for registration information. · |

Donations Needed for Girl’s Fitness Class: The PTSA awarded Ms. Grinups with a grant to support her effort to provide shoes for the girls in her Girl’s Fitness Class. She is still in need of funds to complete this project. Please consider donating a gift card (any amount) for Dick’s Sporting Goods by Oct. 4. Send to: Westfield High School PTSA, 4700 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly, VA 20151 or send to the main office with your student. THANK YOU! The Girl’s Fitness Class, for the last 5 years, has applied for and won a grant to cover the purchase of new sneakers for every girl in the class. Unfortunately, we found out that the organization is only able to fund $650 towards the shoes-not the full amount. Also, the Girls Fitness Class elective has doubled in size from 2 classes to 4 classes this year and I do not have the funds to purchase all the shoes. The tradition of every student receiving new shoes is something the girls are depending on and looking forward too. The new shoes make them want to work out and they feel that they are part of a team. These shoes make them work harder and they are so proud of their shoes. Many of the students in the class do not have sneakers and are wearing our loaner shoes that we use when students forget their sneakers in Physical Education class. If you visit the Girls’ Fitness Classes, you will see that it is a very diverse population of students. Many of the students are ESOL, have never played sports or know what to do to get healthy. The class presents a variety of activities, nutritional information, meditation skills and self- confidence building that are the foundations of the class. Dick’s Sporting Goods has been our supplier of shoes since the class started. They were just at Westfield last Friday morning and sized each student so they would receive the correct sized shoe. It will take 2-3 weeks to secure our shoes and I am hoping that in that timeframe, we will have enough donations to cover the remaining cost. Thank you from the Girls Fitness Class!
