- Mulch Weekend Thank Yous: Thank you to all the students and adults (current and former parents and staff members) who helped make mulch weekend successful! The people who came out to help worked really hard, earning their very sore muscles! From families who donated and cooked food, to the WHS staff who helped in so many ways, to mulch buyers, to fork lift drivers, to truck drivers and navigators, to students and some parents who hauled the mulch, to the teams that spread mulch, to the committee who planned the event, to volunteers who helped run the parking lot, prize table, and volunteer areas…..thank you! And a huge thank you to Mindy Conway who organized it all. We truly appreciate the countless hours you dedicated to making this a well-run event.
- Mulch Weekend – Fantastic Local Business Support: We would like to thank the amazing generosity of several of our local businesses during mulch delivery! Without their support, this would have been a much more difficult task! Thank you to: A & A Transfer, American Windows and Siding, Building Infrastructure Group, Emerald Lawn and Landscaping,, G&C Auto Tire & Auto Service,, Katchmark Construction, Living Colour Landscaping, Starbucks Chantilly Crossing, Wegmans Chantilly Please remember these businesses that support Westfield when you need one of the services/products they provide. Thank you!
- Student SOL Schedules: Individual SOL schedules will be delivered to your student’s FCPS email address soon. Some SOLS will be administered this week and next and the main testing window is from May 14th-21st. Please encourage your student to take a screen shot of their schedule and add it to their planner/calendar. Good luck to all students taking SOLs this year.
- AP Exams: AP Exams begin next week and run through the second week in May (yes, overlapping with SOLs). A few more adult volunteers are needed to help with AP exams. There will be a lead proctor running the exam. Volunteers may help with monitoring students, escorting students to the restroom, collecting/counting test materials at the end of the exam, and other possible duties. No experience is needed. The lead proctor will show you what needs to be done. The only requirement is that you may not be a volunteer in any test your student takes. Please email Mrs. Shaw at ntshaw@fcps.edu, Ms. Fargo at jkfargo@fcps.edu, or Mrs. Hughes at dghughes@fcps.edu
- Phantom of the Opera: The WHS Theatre Department presents Phantom of the Opera, May 4th and 5th at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and for students and $12 at the door. Shows the first weekend received rave reviews! Don’t miss it! westfieldtheatre.com
- Run for Remembrance in Honor of Mike Greiner and Conor Bouveron, Sunday May 20th: Registration is open for the 1K walk and 5K run being held in remembrance of Mike Greiner and Conor Bouveron, two beloved WHS members lost in 2015 and 2016. To register, click here.

Michelle and Devina will compete at the National History Day Fair in June! Their project is titled: “A Movement Divided: Conflict and Compromise in British Suffrage”. They will be the Virginia representatives in the category! Also, congratulations to Josie Morris, Maddie Rose, and Erin Carlson who won the George C. Marshall Award given to the best display of world diplomacy in a project! Their group documentary was titled: “The Treaty to Versailles”.
- “A” Day Raffle Thank Yous: The 3rd quarter “A” Day raffle was held during lunched on April 24th! Congratulations to all students who won prizes and to all who earned “A’s” during 3rd quarter! - Rising Freshman Boot Camp registration open: The annual Bulldog Boot Camp for rising 9th graders will be held August 13th-15th from 9 am to noon each day. The deadline to register is August 1st and there are no refunds. The registration form is attached. If your student will be participating in marching band, please do not register for the boot camp as band students learn the information and more during band camp.
- Yarn Donations still requested: The WHS librarians are sponsoring a volunteer opportunity for students after school on Mondays in the library. Students will be able to knit scarves for the homeless. This project is in conjunction with SOME.org and students will be able to earn community service hours. This is a project that is offered at Stone MS, so we hope to encourage students to continue this work at Westfield. To help get this project rolling, donations of yarn have been requested: Red Heart brand yarn, acrylic (washable), weight category 4, dark colors only, and from smoke-and-pet-free homes (due to allergies). Questions? Please contact Ms. Koenig at amkoenig@fcps.edu.
