Here are several updates we know about from around the school:

1. Mulch Delivery Weekend is this weekend! April 20^th and 21^st – All hands on deck - We need you, students and parents/guardians!  Many volunteers and food donations are needed to make this a success!  Students earn service hours and funds for up to two clubs/sports and can win prizes, plus have fun with friends! All students can help – from the most petite to the most burly and everyone in between, everyone can participate! Here are the sign-up links: student volunteers; parent/guardian volunteers; and food donations.  Please help make this annual community event successful again this year!   Students planning to apply for the PTSA scholarship now or in the future—this is an important piece of PTSA volunteering that is part of the application.   **IF YOU SIGNED UP TO HELP ON THE ORIGINAL DELIVERY DATES, NO NEED TO SIGN UP AGAIN! JUST COME AT YOUR TIME!**
2. Thank you to the Mulch Day Sponsors:  We appreciate the support of our local businesses! 3. A Day Raffle, Tuesday, April 24^th during lunches – Volunteers needed please! Come help students celebrate the “A’s” they earned 3^rd  quarter. Report cards will be distributed Tuesday and during lunches that day, students can pick up a raffle ticket for each A they earned 3rd quarter. There are many fantastic gift cards they can win. The drawings take place at the end of D lunch and winners will be announced at the end of the day.  Can you help please? Contact Andrea Jacobs at mominva@andreahjacobs.com 
4. Young Women’s Self-Defense Class: This Saturday (after mulch delivery!) from 3-6 pm, there will be a young women’s self-defense class offered at Westfield. There are a few spots still open. Please see the attached flier and permission form for more information. Bring the completed forms and registration fee to the class on Saturday. Thank you to Mindy Conway for organizing and to Officers Lawson and Ruck for teaching these important safety lessons. (There is no fee for the mother or female guardian accompanying a student.)
5. Rising Freshman Parent Coffee: Please help spread the word about an informative parent coffee on Friday, April 27^th at 9 am in the Lecture Hall. This is a great chance to hear about Westfield and meet other parents. See the attached flier for more information.
6. Class of 2018 All Night Graduation Celebration: Tickets are now on sale! Volunteers are needed! Please contact Kathleen Whitman at kwhitmangarden@gmail.com . Many hands make light work….the more the merrier.
7. PTSA Scholarship Application: The PTSA is pleased to announce that the 2018 scholarship applications are available. Completed applications are due to the WHS Career Center by 2:30 pm. Applications can be found here: PTSA Scholarship and PTSA Special Education Scholarship. Please carefully read the application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Good luck!
8. 2018-2019 new schedule change process: Please ensure that your student makes appropriate class choices. New for the next school year: there will be no schedule changes permitted between June 11^th and the 3^rd week of the new school year.
9. Phantom of the Opera: The WHS Theatre Department presents Phantom of the Opera, April 27^th-28^th and Mary 4^th-5^th at 7 pm and also Sunday, April 29^th at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and for students and $12 at the door. westfieldtheatre.com
10. Run for Remembrance in Honor of Mike Greiner and Conor Bouveron, Sunday May 20^th: Registration is open for the 1K walk and 5K run being held in remembrance of Mike Greiner and Conor Bouveron, two beloved WHS members lost in 2015 and 2016. To register, click here.
11. Rising Freshman Boot Camp registration open: The annual Bulldog Boot Camp for rising 9^th graders will be held August 13^th-15^th from 9 am to noon each day. The deadline to register is August 1^st and there are no refunds. The registration form is attached. If your student will be participating in marching band, please do not register for the boot camp as band students learn the information and more during band camp.
12. Turbo-Tutoring SAT Prep: Preparing for the May SAT? Turbo-tutoring has two upcoming prep classes on April 25^th and April 28^th. For more information and to register, see the attached flier or visit this link.
13. Yarn Donations still requested: The WHS librarians are sponsoring a volunteer opportunity for students after school on Mondays in the library. Students will be able to knit scarves for the homeless. This project is in conjunction with SOME.org and students will be able to earn community service hours. This is a project that is offered at Stone MS, so we hope to encourage students to continue this work at Westfield. To help get this project rolling, donations of yarn have been requested: Red Heart brand yarn, acrylic (washable), weight category 4, dark colors only, and from smoke-and-pet-free homes (due to allergies).
