Senior Parent Night - NEW this year: The Senior Parent evening program will be held before Back to School Night for 11thand 12th graders on Wednesday, September 17th at 6 pm. You will meet with your child’s school counselor in smaller breakout rooms for an informative evening program that will provide you with an introduction to the process of what to do for the various post-secondary plans your child is pursuing and there will be time for a Q&A before Back to School Night begins. Deadlines are rapidly approaching and we want to make sure you are aware of the process to get what you need. Then you can stay to meet your child’s teachers…all on the same night!
-
Senior Parents: Have your students told you about the senior courtyard? Thanks to the Pace, Tweddle and Bremer families, it is being refurbished and looks great! Tables have been repaired and painted, weeding done and several umbrellas added! If you’d like to be involved or contribute toward additional umbrellas, please email bethtweddle@cox.net Please encourage your seniors to respect the space and treat it well!

Honor Society Informational Meeting- October 6th at 2:20 in the auditorium – For Students: Late buses will be running that day. Society sponsors and officers of the groups will be present to answer questions about application and membership requirements. Currently, the following societies will be represented: Art, History, Marketing, National Honor Society, Science (mandatory attendance to join NSHS), and Spanish. The groups have different criteria for membership as well as the application process. Several of these are posted on the school web site: http://www.fcps.edu/WestfieldHS/students/honorsocieties/honorsocieties.html Some applications are posted on line. Also on the website, there is a link that informs students/parents of various WHS activities that require the documentation of volunteer hours. This is good to view for planning purposes, is subject to change and may only be a partial list. Questions? Students should contact the specific subject sponsor. Most students are not eligible to join honor societies until their junior year; some societies may have academic class prerequisites that may allow earlier membership.

For more information about FCPS Service Learning go to: http://www.fcps.edu/is/servicelearning/hs.shtml There are many local opportunities in our community and search engines you can create a profile with to start out, such as Volunteer Match http://www.volunteermatch.org or Volunteer Fairfax www.volunteerfairfax.org .
