PTSA E-blast 3-14-14---Happy Pi Day!

3/17-Senior Parent’s “3 months til graduation” meeting, 7 pm
3/19-Choir Concert, 7:30 pm
3/20-PTSA meeting, 7 pm in the library
3/24- “Little Known Secrets of Paying for College” seminar, 7 pm
3/26 & 3/27- WHS Blood Drive, volunteers needed
3/29-MULCH! (Order deadline is 3/18) Lots of volunteers needed!
4/1- Price goes up for All Night Grad tickets
4/1-Drawing for Sony wireless speaker system (for all seniors whose ANGP ticket is bought by 3/31)
Here are several updates from the PTSA and several groups around WHS:
- Senior Parents: “3 months til graduation” meeting on Monday, 3/17 at 7 pm in the cafeteria. Come learn about what you and your student need to do to navigate toward graduation (6/18!), as well as graduation ticket information, Balfour information, All Night Grad Celebration information, and more. You can check to see if your student has any unpaid financial obligations and pay them at the meeting. Please attend this important information meeting. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
- “Little Known Secrets of Paying for College” seminar, presented by the College Funding Coach, will be held at 7pm on Monday, March 24th in the WHS auditorium. All community members are invited!
- WHS Blood Drive: The blood drive has been rescheduled to March 26th and 27th. Students aged 16 or older, weighing 110 pounds or more can donate but must have a signed permission slip. Adult volunteers needed to help with registration and the canteen area. Shifts are 7:15 am-10:00 am, 10:00 am -1:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. - The Mulch Sale is happening now! Please support the biggest fundraiser of the year, as we strive to provide a safe All Night Grad Celebration. Delivery is March 28th or 29th. You can place an order: order online or download and mail an order form.
- Hundreds of volunteers are needed for Mulch delivery day. Sign up on the right side of the page at http://www.westfieldhs.org/. Parent and students volunteers are needed. Teams and clubs that are registered by their sponsor/coach can earn a portion of a $6,000 pot of money for their group, based on student hours worked! And, great prizes will be given away on mulch day!

- Senior Parents: Did you know that the ticket price for the 2014 ANGP goes up on March 31st? Tickets on sale now at http://ptsa.westfieldhs.org/students/order-angp-tickets.html You can buy online or download the form and send it in to the main office.
- Senior Parents: There will be a drawing for a Sony Wireless Speaker System (“Make.Believe”) on April 1st. Every student whose ANGP ticket is purchased by March 31st will be entered into the drawing!
- Casino Dealers Needed for the June 18th All Night Grad Casino! Please email Nicole Ohanian at jnjjo@msn.com or Ellen Ryder as lsryder@cox.net with questions or if you are interested.
- National History Day Update: Congratulations to the 26 students who participated in the district NHD competition and to those selected to compete at the state competition in April! They are: Zainab Calcuttawala, Maisha Maliha Hoque, Raisa Labiba Hoque, Swetha Kota, Hayley Seal, and Celina Paudel. Other top finishers at the district event were: Kellie Cleveland, Shaleen Haque, Skye Koutstaal, Jisun Lee, Sarah Lim, Monica Rudolph, Asmita Shah, and Sara Sturm. The PTSA is proud to help these students with their entrance fees.
- A.C.E. Co-chair needed: The PTSA seeks a co-chair for the Academic Celebration of Excellence program. Work with a great co-chair on the Honor Roll and the PTSA scholarship program. Please email: andriagregory@gmail.com with questions or if interested.
- Do you believe Human Trafficking only affects immigrants? Or that victims of Human Trafficking will immediately seek help? On Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 from 7:30-9 P.M. the Citizen’s Advisory Committee will host an expert to debunk the myths of Human Trafficking and talk about how it affects Fairfax County. You will also learn to recognize the signs of Human Trafficking and where to seek help. R.S.V.P. is not required to attend this presentation. Presentation is at Sully District Police Station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly, VA.
- Did you know there are approximately 33,000 violent street gangs, motorcycle gangs and prison gangs who are criminally active in the United States today? Join us on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 from 7:30-9 P.M. to learn about various gangs affecting Fairfax County as well as a look into the gang lifestyle. R.S.V.P. is not required to attend this presentation. Presentation is at Sully District Police Station, 4900 Stonecroft Blvd, Chantilly, VA.
