- #IAMFCPS: If you are inclined, please use this link to send a quick message to the Board of Supervisors and School Board about the budget, even if you already have in the past. There will be a Board of Supervisors vote on the advertised property tax rate on March 1st. Once this rate is set, it cannot be increased. Currently, the rate does not provide enough to fund the Superintendent’s budget for FCPS for 2016-2017.

- Practice SAT or ACT: The PTSA and Kaplan are sponsoring a practice SAT or ACT (student choice at registration) on April 30th at 8 am. This is a chance to take a full length (no essay) practice test to see where your strengths and areas for improvement are. Scores are for your use only and are not reported. - 2016 Mulch Day Prize Chair STILL Needed: A volunteer or group of volunteers is needed to purchase prizes and coordinate the prize table for this year’s mulch sale. Interested? Contact bulldogmulch@westfieldhs.org
- 2016 Forklift Drivers needed for Mulch Day (April 8th and 9th): Two additional forklift drivers are needed for this year’s mulch day. Help is needed with unloading mulch from the delivering tractor trailers and loading it into the vehicles used to deliver to our customers. Experience helpful but not required. We have experienced drivers who can show you what to do. Please contact Karen Duncan with questions or to volunteer. wkduncan@aol.com
- Mulch Volunteers (April 8th and 9th): Many volunteers will be needed to help deliver all that mulch! Sign-ups started today at the PTSA website.. Student AND adult volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Adults are needed mostly to drive students to the mulch deliveries. Please mark your calendars for April 8th and/or 9th and join the annual Westfield community event! Great for service hours – we will sign forms! And, this counts as PTSA volunteering, an important piece of the PTSA's Scholarship application! Teams and clubs can earn funds – sponsors should check with Mrs. Campbell in Student Services to sign up. Questions? Contact bulldogmulch@westfieldhs.org
- All Night Grad Party Volunteers Needed, June 21st—Underclass, Senior and Alum Parents Invited and Encouraged to help: This event takes place the night of graduation and is a drug-and-alcohol-free event celebrating the current year graduates. This year, the event will be held at Westfield with certain areas of the building being transformed into a fun celebration zone and includes a magician/illusionist, mechanical bull, DJ, Casino, lots of games, prizes, food, and more! This annual event is the culmination of four years of hard work for the graduates and a chance for them to celebrate their success! MANY volunteers (parents of students in all grades) are needed for the various committees such as games and prizes, food, and security. Contact angp@westfieldhs.org to volunteer or with questions.
- PTSA Board Opening - Treasurer: The PTSA seeks someone to become the PTSA Treasurer beginning in July. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Meg Crossett at ptsa_president@westfieldhs.org No experience is needed, though a financial background is helpful. The current treasurer will provided training, if needed.
- Crew’s Million Meter Madness Fundraiser: The WHS Crew Team is holding its 3rd annual Million Meter Madness event Saturday March 12th in the WHS cafeteria. Using rowing machines, athletes will row a combined total of 1,000,000 meters. Please consider pledging support to a specific athlete or to the team in general through this link Crew is raising funds to replace oars and ergs (rowing machines). The Team is not sponsored by FCPS and relies on donations to replace equipment. You are welcome to attend the event, Friday March 12th starting at 7 pm.
- Military Academy Night: On Thursday, March 3rd from 7-8:30 pm, there will be a military academy information night in the Westfield HS Library. Representatives from the Air Force, Coast Guard, Naval, and Military Academies, as well as Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, George Mason’s Army ROTC, and Virginia Tech’s Corps of Cadets will be present.
- Saturday Night In The Suburbs, March 17th, 7:30 pm: Thanks to the Westfield Business Owner’s Association, the PTSA is pleased to sponsor Unified Prevention Coalition’s “Saturday Night in the Suburbs” presentation. The program features an evening of dialogue with a panel of high school seniors on drugs and alcohol use, teen parties, parent supervision and enabling, social media, and communication with parents. The program is for ADULTS ONLY. Content is informative and appropriate for high school and middle school parents, and any adult in the community.

- Sully District Town Hall Meeting, Monday, March 7th at 7 pm at Rocky Run Middle School: This meeting will focus on the Fairfax County 2017 Budget. In attendance will be Kathy Smith (Sully Supervisor) and Tom Wilson (Sully School Board Representative), as well as budget staff from the county and FCPS.
- Sully District Citizen Advisory Committee Meeting, Wednesday March 9th at 7:30-9:00 pm: We will have a Crisis Intervention expert on hand talking about the training our officers go through to ensure our special population receives the services they need. This training includes understanding those in crisis, substance abuse issues, suicide prevention skills, de-escalation techniques and more. Please join us for this informative meeting! As always, bring your comments, questions and concerns so we can better serve YOU! Feel free to invite neighbors, friends and family!
- Winter Guard Congratulations!: Congratulations to the Winter Guard who won first place in their division last Saturday! They competed against 8 other schools! Next up, competitions at March 12th at Atlee High School (Mechanicsville, VA) and April 2nd at South County High School. Good luck!
- Indoor Drum Line: Did you know that Westfield has a new Indoor Drum Line? In their first year of competing, they placed 3rd out of 8 competitors in only their 2nd competition last Saturday! Congratulations! Questions? Interested? Contact Mr. Johnson.
- PTSA Membership: Please join the PTSA this year—it’s not too late! You can sign up and pay online at PTSA webpage or download the membership form and send it, along with payment, to the main office. It takes many people joining and helping in the mission of success for all students at Westfield. Please be one of those people – your participation matters.
- Social Media Apps: Check out the WHS PTSA webpage to find information about the many social media apps that students are using these days. New apps pop up frequently, but this list will help you learn about many that are out there.
- Special Education Conference: The conference is free and open to parents, educators and community members. Attend the conference to learn the latest research, strategies, and trends in the education of students with learning challenges, special needs, and disabilities. Workshop topics will include executive functioning skills, dyslexia, learning challenges, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder and much more! The Exhibit Hall will feature vendors from Fairfax County Public Schools, government agencies and non-profit organizations. The conference is Saturday, April 9th from 8 am to 2:30 pm at Hayfield High School. - WeSTEP is coming: Seniors interested in an internship in June are invited to be part of WeSTEP! Needed is 2.5 or higher GP and strong attendance. WeSTEP applications are available on the Westfield website under the “Seniors” link or can be picked up in room E101. Mrs. Lee can talk with seniors about internship placements as well.
- WeSTEP Community Sponsors Needed: Westfield High School is looking for business partnerships for the 2016 WHS WeSTEP Internship Program. The program runs from June 6th through June 17th. All interns satisfy high standards, including grade, attendance and discipline records reviews. To participate, your organization should be able to offer an intern a minimum of 60 hours of work. We seek paid and unpaid internships and seek to add new opportunities for students, especially in Interior Design and Medicine. The program was such a success last year that at least 23 of our seniors were offered summer employment! Please contact Patricia Lee at PYLee@fcps.edu for additional information about the program and to see if we can help you find the perfect intern(s). Your collaboration is an important part of the education of our seniors, and we look forward to working with you.

- Turbo-Tutoring: The next Turbo-Tutoring session will take place on March 16th at Briar Woods High School at 6:30 pm. For information and to register, please click here
- BITS Tutoring: BITS tutoring in March 5th and 12th. This is FREE tutoring for all 3rd-12th grade students in the Westfield pyramid. Please spread the word!

- Donations of Magazines Request Continues: The ESOL Department has requested donations of magazines. Preferred titles/subjects are: Sports Illustrated, News Magazines (Time, U.S. News, etc), Teen magazines, Teen music, Video Gaming, Technology/Mobile Phones, Readers Digest, Soccer magazines, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Magazines in other languages (any).
